A high-resolution map of Hawaiian ULVZ morphology from ScS phases

چکیده
We use core reflected ScS waves sensitive to a broad region of the core-mantle boundary beneath Hawaii create first high-resolution map Hawaiian ultralow-velocity zone (ULVZ). Positive ScS-S differential times are used identify regions strong slow velocity anomalies in lowermost mantle, and presence pre/post-cursors around main phase confirms sharp top basal ULVZ layer. Pre/post-cursor arrivals mapped into volume across their sensitivity produce detailed image morphology. The variability observed can be interpreted terms varying height or reduction, but large range variations required explain observations suggests that most reflects layer thickness. is large-scale regional feature (∼5-25 km) extending wide area along edge Pacific low-velocity province (LLVP). A high-resolution map of transcriptional repression
Turning genes on and off is essential for development and homeostasis, yet little is known about the sequence and causal role of chromatin state changes during the repression of active genes. This is surprising, as defective gene silencing underlies developmental abnormalities and disease. Here we delineate the sequence and functional contribution of transcriptional repression mechanisms at hig...
متن کاملA Comprehensive, High-Resolution Map of a Gene’s Fitness Landscape
Mutations are central to evolution, providing the genetic variation upon which selection acts. A mutation's effect on the suitability of a gene to perform a particular function (gene fitness) can be positive, negative, or neutral. Knowledge of the distribution of fitness effects (DFE) of mutations is fundamental for understanding evolutionary dynamics, molecular-level genetic variation, complex...
متن کاملNear-vertical multiple ScS phases and vertically averaged mantle properties
Near-vertical multiple ScS phases are among the cleanest seismic phases traveling over several thousand km in the Earth’s mantle and are useful for constraining the average attenuation and S-wave speed in the whole mantle. However, the available multiple ScS pairs are limited. We take advantage of the recent dramatic increase in the number of global broad-band stations, and made a thorough comp...
متن کاملA high-resolution HAPPY map of Dictyostelium discoideum chromosome 6.
We have made a high-resolution HAPPY map of chromosome 6 of Dictyostelium discoideum consisting of 300 sequence-tagged sites with an average spacing of 14 kb along the approximately 4-Mb chromosome. The majority of the marker sequences were derived from randomly chosen clones from four different chromosome 6-enriched plasmid libraries or from subclones of YACs previously mapped to chromosome 6....
متن کاملA High Resolution Radiation Hybrid Map of Wheat Chromosome 4A
Bread wheat has a large and complex allohexaploid genome with low recombination level at chromosome centromeric and peri-centromeric regions. This significantly hampers ordering of markers, contigs of physical maps and sequence scaffolds and impedes obtaining of high-quality reference genome sequence. Here we report on the construction of high-density and high-resolution radiation hybrid (RH) m...
